About
We are the Rusinga Community Based Organization. We provide local humanitarian support and development of basic needs to a small, but populous island on Lake Victoria, Kenya. We are looking for international partnerships and individual donors to help improve the quality of life, education, and economic stability of our residents.
We are working towards achieving satisfactory marks and advancement in the United Nations ``Big Four” agenda (food security, affordable health care, affordable housing, local manufacturing). If we can achieve the “Big Four” agenda, we will vastly improve the standard of living and development for thousands of lives on our beautiful and friendly island.
Mission
We are a grassroots NGO focused on improving education conditions, availability of food, access to drinking water, and woman empowerment on our island. We work hand-in-hand to personally help families and various groups on the island in order to help their families thrive for generations to come.
Challenges our Community Face
-
On the island there is a lack of clean, safe drinking water. Most residents take the water straight from Lake Victoria to drink. Without treatment, this can be a source of many water-born diseases.
-
The water source for residents is far from the community, forcing mothers and grandmothers of the island to walk long distances each day to fetch water.
-
Our health facilities on the island are inadequate. Short staff of doctors and lack of medical supplies such as basic drugs, and medical tools prove to be a challenge for our hospitals.
-
Most of all schools on our island are underfunded and structurally inadequate. The majority of families of secondary school students lack the ability to pay school fees for their students. This causes many residents to drop out of school for lack of funds.
